Young People Enter Parliament, Inspiration from the Book The Millennials’ Steep Road to Parliament.

Tangerang, internasionalpos.com

The success of the young PDI Perjuangan politician, Abraham Garuda Laksono, in winning a seat in the Banten parliament has become a role model for millennials, Monday (16/09).

Abraham was elected as a member of the Banten Provincial DPRD in the 2024 Election at the age of 23, and is also recorded as the youngest member.

For his generation, Abraham becoming a member of the legislature is an effort to restore the trust of millennials in politics.

Abraham is a good start in the legislature for the youth movement which has often been underestimated.

With his creativity, it is hoped that he can restore public trust in people’s representatives. And he can win the hearts of millennials.

This was revealed during the Book Review “The Jumbled Road for Millennials to Parliament, Abraham Garuda Laksono, From Inspiration to Action” which took place at the Padepokan Kebangsaan Karang Tumaritis, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Saturday (14/9/2024).

The Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan DPP, Ribka Tjiptaning, who was the keynote speaker at the book review, praised the success of the son of Ananta Wahana, a senior politician from Banten.

According to Ribka, who is also very close to Abe, the nickname of Abraham Garuda Laksono, Abe achieved his current position not because of his father, but because of Abe’s own capacity and capability that is worthy of being a people’s representative.

“Even if Abe had chosen to be a businessman, he would have succeeded, his educational background is sufficient as a graduate from Singapore.

But Abe apparently chose the path of a politician following in his father’s footsteps,” said Ribka in front of the participants who were dominated by millennials.

Abe’s decision, she said, was something extraordinary. Because not every young person of millennial age is likely to be able to make a similar decision.

“Of course this is inspiring, when Abe had the opportunity to only think about himself with a decent life, a qualified job, but instead chose to take care of many people, constituents. This certainly requires mental and intellectual maturity,” she said.

Tjiptaning also called on millennials to read the book Jalan Terjal Millennials Menuju Parlemen, Abraham Garuda Laksono, because it will be a source of inspiration that politics is not always complicated, but can also be like what Abe did full of joy and happiness.

“This book is important to read, especially for millennials who are still apathetic towards politics,” he said.

Another resource person, Bonnie Triyana, a young Indonesian historian who wrote the foreword to the book published by PT Gramedia, said that she felt happy when giving the foreword.

“I wrote the foreword with happiness, because this book is the result of empirical experience. Abe is a role model for young people who are anomalous, because young people today prefer to be YouTubers rather than politicians,” he said.

Bonnie also said that the book is a semi-memoir of Abe’s early career as a politician which will inspire young people to enter politics.

“Memoirs are usually written by those who are older. But Abe wrote it at the beginning of his career, this is very interesting.

Because this book will be a reflection of Abe’s accountability in daily life that must be in line with what has been written. So that the steep path does not stop here, but continues,” he explained.

The Head of the Indonesian History Agency of the PDI Perjuangan DPP also compared Abe with Sjahrir, Soekarno, Muhammad Hatta, Tan Malaka and other national figures who started their political struggles with steep paths who inherited their turmoil of thought and struggle through books.

“Abe is a figure who represents a different generation who must be able to dismantle old political traditions with new traditions, namely asking a lot of questions and fighting ideas in the political space,” he said.

In the same vein, Endang Jaya Permana, who is the editor of the book with Didi Wahyudi, said that Abe is a new face with a new spirit in the contemporary political arena.

“The figure of Abraham is a ‘new face’ and regeneration in modern leadership in legislative institutions, which fits the millennial spiritual atmosphere,” said Endang Jaya Permana, the book’s editor.

According to him, the book “Jalan Terjal Millennial Menuju Parlemen” is a record of Abraham’s journey with the nickname Abe, his friends’ nickname, who successfully won a seat in the Banten parliament.

Published in news articles in several online media, both local and national, which were then summarized in a book.

“This book is a record of Abraham’s struggle as a millennial. From zero political experience, until he was elected as a member of the Banten parliament. From zero to hero,” he concluded.

Abraham Garuda Laksono expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic response to the publication of the book which he called a literacy inscription of his political career journey.

“Political literacy for the millennial group my age is very important”, said.
